Conan

Her scream will haunt me for the rest of my life.

“Take Alex, I have to go.” I place Alex as gently as I can in Rebel’s arms before turning and running for the door, the sound of pounding boots behind me letting me know I’m not alone.

I head straight for my truck, which I brought instead of the bike because of Alex. Hopping in the driver’s seat, I whip my head around when Luna climbs into the passenger seat.

“Luna—” I shut my mouth when she turns and glares at me, tears streaming down her face.

“Just drive, Conan,” she spits out in a voice I don’t recognize. “Don’t tell me to wait here. That’s my fucking baby down there.” Her voice cracks as she swallows a sob.

I reach over and grab her hand as I fire up the truck and make my way out of the compound.

“Head to the bridge. Jacob and Linc should be arriving there any time now.”

“Why wasn’t Jacob on her?” I grit out, fisting the steering wheel hard enough to make it creak.

“He called it in. Someone slashed his tires so Linc went to help him. When I called, they both jumped on Linc’s bike and headed straight there. They’ll be there before us,” she answers in a whisper.

“Call your men, Luna,” I remind her softly.

“I don’t want to worry them.”

I look at her and read between the lines. She doesn’t want to call them because saying it out loud makes it real.

“Call your men, Luna,” I repeat softly but firmly. She looks at me and nods her head, pulling out her cell as I take a deep breath and prepare to do the same.

“Call Inigo,” I tell the Bluetooth and listen as it rings, ignoring Luna softly crying as she talks on the phone. If I focus on her, I’ll never make it through this phone call. I squeeze her hand and suck in a sharp breath when Inigo answers.

“How goes daddy duty?” he asks with a chuckle.

“Inigo…” My voice sounds like I’ve swallowed gravel.

“What? What is it?”

“It’s Kat. Head to the bridge, I’ll meet you there.”

“Head to the bridge? What the fuck are you talking about?”

“Kat’s been in an accident, just hurry.” I hang up, not giving him any more details, which makes me a prick but if he’s riding his bike over I need him to keep his wits about him. Him getting in an accident won’t help anyone.

“Orion’s on his way back. Gage is swinging by to pick up Halo. He’s at the gun range, which is likely why he didn’t pick up.”

She blows out a breath but quickly sucks in another and another and another making me realize she’s on the verge of a panic attack.

“Luna, just breathe. We don’t know what’s going on right now. They could be fine by the time we get there, sitting there pissed off and waiting for us to get our shit together. Don’t write them off yet, Luna.”

“That’s my little girl, Conan. I can’t lose her.
